In the last few years, Hacksaw Gaming has risen to become one of the biggest names in iGaming – and pretty much all of their new releases now attract a significant level of attention! One of their newest slots is Rad Maxx – one I was personally very excited to see.
As someone whoโs played a lot of Hacksaw Gaming’s slots – recreationally – Iโm always happy to see what the provider has next up their sleeve, and with Rad Maxxโs predecessor – RIP City – one of my all-time favourites – I was really curious to see how this one would stack up – especially with its unique 360ยฐ payline mechanic!
After an hour or two of playing, I can say this: itโs definitely got some pretty familiar elements in it, but thereโs a lot new – and in this detailed Rad Maxx slot review, Iโm going to walk you through everything the game has to offer!

My First Impressions
When I first launched the game, I was met by, in true Hacksaw Gaming fashion, a gritty, bleak-looking alleyway setting – and itโs definitely not your conventional-looking slot – but it works well. The sound effects and backing track is solid, and while it may be a bit gray for some players – personally, I love it!
The gameโs symbols include a mixture of low-value playing card values, including 10, jack, queen, king, and ace, and the high value ones include apple cores, pizza slices, and Maxx himself. The best-paying, though, is the Crazy Cat symbol – a wild multiplier that Iโll tell you more about later.
Gameplay, Interface, and Mechanics
Rad Maxx plays on a 5×5 grid, and there are up to 76 dynamic paylines in play. Now, where things get interesting here, is the 360ยฐ payline mechanic. By default, wins are calculated from left to right – but if you land a Wild Plus symbol, it activates between 1 and 3 additional pay directions: right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top. This means, essentially, each spin offers a different number of ways-to-win!
The minimum bet is perfect for low-rollers – just $0.10 – but I was a bit surprised to find the gameโs maximum bet capped at just $5! The slot also offers a default RTP of 96.32%, but be aware that lower RTP versions are available.
Like all Hacksaw Gaming slots, the user interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to adjust bet sizes and spin the reels. You have your standard autoplay and turbo mode functions, too – although these arenโt available in all regions due to new regulations.
Bonus Features
Crazy Cat Symbols
These are wild multipliers that can appear on any spin, displaying a multiplier value between x2 and x20. When they form part of a winning combination, they multiply the win accordingly.
Now, where things get interesting, is if multiple Crazy Cats are involved in a win. When this happens, their multipliers are multiplied together – and this means even the base game boasts some pretty impressive win potential!
Pay Direction Arrows & Wild Plus Symbols
Four arrows surround the grid, indicating the directions in which paylines can be calculated. The left arrow is always active, but landing a Wild Plus symbol activates 1 to 3 additional arrows in a clockwise order.
Personally, I really like this mechanic, as it can lead to wins being calculated in multiple directions at once – and this can massively increase your chances of hitting a big win!
(In fact, when I was testing the game, I hit a HUGE base game win thanks to this mechanic – worth just upwards of 400x!)
Mad Maxx Bonus
Triggered by landing 3 of the FS scatter symbols, this bonus awards 10 free spins. Itโs not my favourite, Iโll admit – but itโs not bad, either. During this feature, there’s an increased chance of landing Wild Plus symbols, and any Crazy Cat symbols that land become sticky, remaining in place for the duration of the bonus.
Itโs got some OK win potential I guess – but personally, Iโd much rather play (or buy) the Maxximice Bonus.
Maxximice Bonus
If youโre lucky enough to land 4 FS scatter symbols youโll trigger the Maxximice Bonus – which is an enhanced version of the standard Mad Maxx Bonus. In this round, you also receive 10 free spins – and it retains all features found within the regular Mad Maxx bonus.
However, the real difference is the fact that youโre guaranteed to land a Wild Plus symbol on every spin – and this means itโs a LOT easier to trigger the multi-directional wins.
To The Maxx Bonus
This is the gameโs Super Bonus, if you like – and itโs very rare, so donโt expect to land it often – if ever! Itโs triggered by landing 5 of the FS symbols in the base – and doing so awards you yet again, 10 free spins.
Now, for this Super Bonus, all four Pay Direction Arrows are active throughout the bonus – and this means youโll get 360ยฐ wins on every spin. Combine this with the sticky Crazy Cat symbols and guaranteed Wild Plus symbols, and youโll soon see how itโs possible to rack up some monster hits here. In fact, Iโd say hitting less than 2,000x during this feature would be really unlucky!
Bonus Buy Options
In keeping with virtually every Hacksaw Gaming slot released recently, Rad Maxx offers several bonus buy options:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: For 3x your bet, each spin is five times more likely to trigger a bonus round.
- Feline Frenzy FeatureSpins: For 50x your bet, guarantees at least 1 Wild Plus symbol and 3 Crazy Cat symbols on the next spin.
- Mad Maxx Bonus: Purchase for 100x your bet.
- Maxximice Bonus: Purchase for 200x your bet.
What I find really interesting, is that the To The Maxx Bonus canโt be purchased. I know this is common in a lot of Hacksaw Gaming slots today – but I still canโt quite get my head around it. It means virtually all players will never get a chance to see it!
Rad Maxx Mobile Review
While most of my time reviewing Rad Maxx was done from my laptop, I did test out the game on my mobile device. I was playing from my Samsung S21 Ultra – and I was impressed, Iโll be honest! The game loaded really quickly, it ran smoothly – and the graphics rendered perfectly. Admittedly, I was playing from a pretty solid WIFI connection – but I donโt doubt that even from a 4G connection it would have run fine.
My only real complaint is that when I opened the bonus buy menu from my mobile device, it was a bit fiddly to scroll through all of the available options – but this isnโt a major concern, just something I noticed.
My Verdict
Rad Maxx is definitely going to be a โwhat’s this all about?โ game for some players – but I think once you get your head around the quirky 360ยฐ payline mechanic, itโs quite easy to follow. Sure, it does maintain quite a few similarities to RIP City – I wonโt deny that. Still, I think theyโve managed to do enough here to make the game unique in its own way – and personally, I really like it.
I love the dynamic paylines and the potential for huge multipliers during the free spins is also a great touch. So, if youโre a fan of innovative slot mechanics – and want to enjoy something with a bit more complexity, then Rad Maxx is definitely worth a spin, Iโd say.
